MEANS OF TRANSPORT

We can use transport to move people, animals and other objects from one place to another. We can travel by land, air and sea.

A helicopter travels by air.

A bicycle travels by land.

A boat travels by sea.

We can comunicate using different means of communication. We can use a telephone to talk, a radio to listen to a football match, a newspaper to read the news and email to write to our friends.

MACHINES AND TOOLS

Machines and tools help us do things. Some machines are very simple but they help us do difficult jobs. Some machines are complex and are made of many different parts.

A lever helps us lift heavy things.

A ramp helps us move heavy things.

Scissors help us cut 
different materials.

Tongs help us pick things up.

ENERGY

Machines need energy to move. There are a lot of different types of energy: energy from people, the sun, wind and electricity are some examples.

MAGNETS

A magnet is made of magnetic material, for example, iron.
A magnet uses force to move some metal objects without touching them.
Magnets have two parts called poles; a north pole and a south pole.
A north and a south pole attract.
Two north poles or two south poles repel.

PETROLEUM

Petroleum is an important source of energy. It is underground and we use special machines to bring it to the surface.

We can obtain a lot of different products from petroleum.

Plastic.

BATTERIES

Do not put batteries in your mouth. They contain dangerous materials.
Always put batteries in the special recycling bins.

WOODS AND FORESTS

A forest or wood is an area of trees.
There are bushes and grass and a lot of different animals.

PLAINS AND FLAT LANDSCAPES

There are no high mountains on plains. The land is flat. You can see fields and straight roads. There are villages and rivers.

COASTAL LANDSCAPES

What can you find in a coastal landscape?

FISHING

Fishermen use boats, nets and rods to catch fish and other animals. They catch fish in the sea and rivers.

Fishermen are not allowed to catch very small fish; they use special nets so the small fish are safe and can grow.

ANIMALS FARMING
